What We Do
- How do you ensure the quality and safety of the ingredients used?
We only buy the highest quality, fresh ingredients from our local food purveyors. We are not a gigantic warehouse facility that ships nationwide. Our staff makes small batches by hand in our kitchen in Riverside, MO. We deliver Barkivore using our own delivery staff in Kansas City who deliver the food directly from our kitchen to your doorstep.
- How is your food made?
All Barkivore meals are made by our chefs in Riverside, MO. We trim and cook our proteins, carbs (potatoes, rice, legumes, etc.) and vegetables fresh daily. We add oils such as fish oil, sunflower oil or saffron oil which are beneficial to your dogs’ skin, coat and joints. The meals are then portioned by hand into bags, flash-frozen and loaded into our freezers. See what is in our food here.
- Where is Barkivore’s food made?
Barkivore is based, owned and operated in Kansas City, MO. All Barkivore food is made in our kitchen in Riverside, MO with ingredients you can trust. We only buy the freshest, human-grade ingredients from our local food purveyors to ensure the highest quality food arrives on your doorstep.

- Why should I switch from storebought food to Barkivore?
Store-bought foods made by big, national brands are manufactured months before they hit the shelves and are not as fresh as they claim to be. Commercial dog foods contain animal byproducts, preservatives and chemicals that no dog should be consuming. When you buy Barkivore food, we guarantee fresh ingredients and high-quality, vet-endorsed food every time. All Barkivore food is locally made in our Riverside, MO kitchen. You’ll see the difference. Barkivore uses fresh, premium ingredients from local sources. Each meal is fully cooked and contains high-quality proteins, carbs, vegetables, and beneficial oils. - Does Barkivore meet all my dog’s nutritional needs?
Absolutely. Barkivore keeps it simple making sure your dog gets a balance of fresh proteins, carbohydrates, & vegetables. We buy the highest-quality ingredients from our local food purveyors. There are no additives or preservatives. All meals are pre-portioned specific to your pet’s size and weight. However, your pet is unique, and we recommend adjusting their food intake based on their individual need.

- Do you use fresh ingredients?
We only use fresh, human-grade ingredients. All ingredients are purchased fresh from our local food purveyors. Barkivore never uses fillers, rendered meals, preservatives, or low-quality ingredients.

- Does Barkivore use rendered meals?
No. All protein used in Barkivore food is high-quality, fresh meat.

- How fresh is the delivered food?
All food is made locally in our Riverside, MO kitchen. We prepare and portion all Barkivore food by hand. It is then flash-frozen and placed into our freezers until your delivery goes out. Orders will go out within three days of meal preparation. We have our own delivery staff in Kansas City that will deliver your dog's meals during the overnight hours and leave them on your front doorstep. No cross-country shipping or haphazard handling.
- How do I store my Barkivore food?
When you receive your bi-weekly order, we encourage you to put it in your freezer. We recommend keeping 2 or 3 bags in your refrigerator (defrosted) at all times so your dog(s) have food at the ready.
- What’s the best way to serve Barkivore food to my dog?
Simple. Just squeeze a portion right into the dog dish. If you're using it as a topper, use less dog food and mix it in with the traditional dog food you've been using.
Does your dog prefer warm food? Add a bit of hot water or dog-safe broth to heat it up or pop it in the microwave!
- Are there any transition tips for switching my dog to your food?
Yes, we recommend you start by mixing in our food with the food your dog is used to. Gradually increase the amount of Barkivore food served while decreasing the amount of old food until you are feeding your dog 100% Barkivore food. The full transition normally takes 7 days. Gradually introducing the new food is gentler on a dog’s digestive system. You may notice a change in your dog's stool. This should resolve itself after a few days.
- How long is it safe to leave Barkivore food in my dog’s bowl?
We do not recommend leaving Barkivore food in your dog’s bowl for more than 3 hours.
- What’s the best way to serve Barkivore food to my dog?
Simple. Just squeeze a portion right into the dog dish. If you're using it as a topper, use less dog food and mix it in with the traditional dog food you've been using.

- What is the shelf life of the food once thawed?
We recommend the meal be consumed within 3 days of being defrosted.
- Is Barkivore raw food?
No.
All Barkivore meals are packed with the nutrition your dog needs and cooked fully to eliminate the risk of harmful bacteria. Raw diets may put your dog’s health at risk as they do not always meet your dog’s full nutritional needs. A raw diet can also impact your dog’s dental health as bones can fracture teeth and tear up a dog’s mouth.

- What additives are put into Barkivore foods?
Barkivore never uses fillers, chemicals or preservatives in our food. We make fresh,human-grade dog food that is already nutritious by its own merit.
We add oils such as fish oil, sunflower oil or saffron oil which is great for your dogs’ skin, coat and joints.

How It Works
- What should I do if my dog doesn’t like the food?
If your dog doesn’t like one of our recipes, check out our other recipes for your dog to try!
You can go to the My Account page to place a hold on your subscription or cancel it.
- How does delivery work?
We deliver your orders during the overnight hours using our local Kansas City delivery drivers. Your Barkivore order will arrive on your doorstep, frozen in a properly sealed bag. All you have to do is place your dog's meals in the freezer until you're ready to defrost them as you go through your 2 week order.
We deliver bi-weekly so your dog never runs out of food and your freezer isn't overloaded.
- How do you keep the food fresh during delivery?
Barkivore food is flash-frozen to ensure the highest of quality and will be delivered within 2 hours of leaving our freezers. When you buy Barkivore, your dog’s food is made fresh in a local kitchen and delivered by our local Kansas City delivery drivers. Your order never enters a warehouse shipping facility where it could be lost or tampered with.
- How do you determine portion sizes? What if my dog isn’t getting enough or too much?
This is a great question! The portion size is dependent on the dog's breed, weight, age and activity level. We recommend your dog eats twice a day. You know your dog best. It's up to you to decide if your dog requires more or less per day than what we recommend.
- How long does the delivery take?
Your meals will be delivered to your door within the next two business days (Sun - Thu). We deliver nightly, and will leave the bag at your front door. We recommend transferring the meals to your freezer as soon as possible, and then thawing each bag as it is needed.
- I opted to pick up my order. When and where do I pick it up?
Orders may be picked up 2 business days from the date you place your order (Sun - Thu) at 204 NW Platte Valley Dr. Riverside, MO 64150. Our normal business hours are 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
- How much food comes in an order?
One Barkivore order contains enough food for 2 weeks. We recommend keeping 2 or 3 bags in your refrigerator (defrosted) at all times so your dog(s) have food at the ready. Store the rest in the freezer until you are ready to defrost it.
- Can I pause delivery?
Yes, you can request hold periods within your subscription. Go to the My Account page to edit your subscription .
- Can I order more than one type of dog food?
Yes! You’d get bored of eating the same food every day, wouldn’t you? Select our “Mix It Up” option when you order.
